The Growing Trend of Tattoo Wedding Bands

Wedding Band Tattoo

Are there wedding bells ringing in your future?  Each year more than 2 million couples tie the knot, exchanging vows and saying their “I do’s.” While most couple symbolize their unconditional love by wearing a metal wedding band, there’s a growing new trend towards the use of tattoo wedding bands.  So, what are tattoo wedding bands, and are they right for you?

What are Tattoo Wedding Bands?

They are exactly what they sound like: tattoos that are inked around the ring finger and used as an alternative to a wedding band.  They can range from basic designs, consisting of nothing more than a black-ink line, to more intricate and complex designs like a Celtic ring.  It’s unknown who was the first person to receive a tattoo wedding band, but it’s become a popular trend both here in the U.S. and abroad.

Benefits of Tattoo Wedding Bands

Among the most notable benefits of opting for a tattoo wedding band is the cost.  Traditional engagement rings may cost several thousand dollars – sometimes even more depending on the metal, diamond quality, brand, etc.  Couples who choose to get tattoo wedding bands, however, can expect to pay just a fraction of this amount, with some costing as little as $100.

With a tattoo wedding band, you don’t ever have to worry about losing your ring. This is in stark contrast to traditional wedding bands, which husbands and wives often lose over the years. There’s nothing more frustrating than losing a $5,000 + diamond ring.  Thankfully, this isn’t a problem with tattoo wedding bands, as it’s inked on your finger for good.

Wedding band tattoos can have other benefits, depending on your line of work.  We’ve talked to people in medicine, the veterinary industry, even glass artists, who love the convenience.

What About Names or Initials?

This is an iffy subject.  With some of the designs listed above, you don’t have to worry about of having a constant reminder of your ex in the event that your marriage turns south.  But if you choose to get your spouse’s name or initials tattoos on your finger, it’s a different story, just like with any tattoo.  Ultimately, whether to get your soon-to-spouse’s name tattooed on your finger is a personal choice that only you can make.
